How to deal with Hand Dermatitis – A Case Study

May 2, 2018 by Dr Maria McGee

Hand Dermatitis

Exposure to water and synthetic detergents can drastically increase the risk of hand dermatitis. Our Neem Oil Soap and HandSalve contain only natural ingredients, hydrating the hands and keeping them healthy.

What is hand dermatitis?

Hand dermatitis is when the skin on the hands becomes flaky, itchy and sore. Typically, it is caused by repeated exposure to water and synthetic detergents. This means certain people are particularly susceptible to hand dermatitis, including new mothers, nurses, hairdressers, catering staff and trades people.

In some cases, the problem can be so severe that it actually hinders a person’s ability to work. This is exactly what happened to our client Sarah (not her real name).

Sarah’s story – a hand dermatitis case study

Sarah, a nurse in her early 30s, developed serious hand dermatitis after the birth of her daughter. Her hands were dry, itchy and blistered. Her symptoms were so bad that she could not return to work. She sought help from her GP and dermatologist, but standard creams and steroids did nothing to improve the situation. Feeling that her career was on the line, Sarah turned to Marble Hill for advice.

We recommended our five steps to healthy hands –

  1. Use our Neem Oil Soap when washing her hands
  2. Avoid using synthetic detergents commonly found in shower gels, liquid soaps and hand washes
  3. After hand washing, rinse hands thoroughly and dry carefully, paying particular attention to the spaces between the fingers and the backs of the hands
  4. Use cool water for washing hands, avoiding unnecessary contact with water, especially hot water. Wear rubber gloves where possible
  5. Apply our HandSalve regularly throughout the day

Two days after taking our advice, we received this email from Sarah –

“I’ve only used the soap and cream for 2 days and I swear I haven’t itched once! It’s unbelievable how soft and less dry my hands are I took photos of my hands at the start of the week so I see the difference! I honestly am so happy!!!”

The before and after photos show what an incredible difference the Marble Hill products made on Sarah’s hands. This is because we only use natural ingredients, as opposed to synthetic detergents, which are found in most soaps and shower gels.

Avoid synthetic detergents

‘Syndets’ (as they are known in the industry) remove oil – from your clothes, from your pots and pans, and from your skin. As Sarah experienced, they can dry your hands out to such an extent that you suffer a reaction. This can be relieved by the intensive moisturising qualities of our 100% natural products.

We have many similar stories. Sarah’s case is just one example of how Marble Hill products can improve quality of life, allowing ordinary people to continue with their lives – and indeed, their careers.
