Are reusable liquid hand washing or shower gel bottles hygienic?
Sustainability has risen in popularity. It in increasingly informing many people’s choices when it comes to the products they use and how they use them.
An easy way to implement a more sustainable choice into your daily habits is using a refillable product or reusing an existing bottle.
However you may be asking yourself, are reusable liquid hand wash and shower gel bottles actually hygienic?

Dr Maria says:
Bottles containing liquid hand washing or shower gel can carry microorganisms on their surfaces or the pump from dirty or contaminated hands.
We recommend washing liquid hand wash or shower gel containers regularly to prevent bacteria from growing inside the pump and around edge of the bottle.
Soap can dry out on the tip of the pump and block fresh soap from being dispensed which encourages germ growth. After a while, reusable dispensers can grow mouldy so they need a good cleaning if you they are kept for a long time.
And remember, a liquid hand wash bottle is only as clean as the last hands that touched it!
Dr Maria recommends:
